East Meets West: Celebrating Art Through Dance, Music And Theater

Before leaving Yaman Lahi Theatre Guild, I was given a chance to create a dance and perform on stage for the last time. This was granted on the Emilio Aguinaldo's annual cultural presentation in celebration of its foundation day and the school's Arts' Week last 2010.

The event was entitled, "East Meets West"  presenting the different styles of dance and music in the world. During this event different performing art groups showcased their talents in dancing, singing and acting. This was also participated by other dancers internationally and guest performers who also showed another kind and level of dancing.

Some of the performing arts groups were the Yaman Lahi Theatre Guild, Pangalay Dance Artists, Emilio Aguinaldo College Dance Group, EAC Chorale and many more.

Though only few of us are "real" dancers (lol), we should and still have to come up with a performance that is really extraordinary and entertaining. We thought of a Manikin Dance to interpret the song "Somewhere (A Place For US)" from the movie, The West Side Story. We create our own interpretation of the song through dancing.

As the music started, we started moving and wiggling our bodies. From manikins, we became real human because of love - there's a right time for love, somewhere.

Introducing the Western dances by dancing ballet, ballroom and Broadway.

Asian dances were performed by various dance artists including Pangalay. Many guest dancers were also invited and shared their talents by dancing their folk/ethnic dances.

The EAC Chorale also serenaded the audience with their warm voices. They sung different songs from Broadway and operas.

The show ended with a big smile on everybody's faces. It was good way of introducing different cultures. Though it varies from each one, I know somehow  that we can be united by arts, through dance, music and theater.

Naks Noks you're a "real" dancer pala! I'm elated to know that that one of my fellow bloggers is very talented. Nurture, nourish your one-of-its kind talent or shall I say unique for no one is the same. More dancing, stage play and cultural present in 2012 and in the years to come.

Wow Noks you are so talented. I always love cultural dances. I used to dance when I was in high school (ages ago) and I don't know if I can still sway my hips gracefully like before haha.. Anyways, keep it up. Looking forward for more posts like this in the future. :)

I like that you talked about how people would be able to showcase the talents they have such as singing, dancing, and acting. I have never been in a performing arts music theater ever in my life. It must be a good idea to get tickets from one of the shows I can find this weekend together with my husband.
