How To Make A Noise Maker From Plastic Bottles

New Year’s Eve is all about making noise at midnight. This is the traditional way of welcoming the new year. This year, make sure to do it in a eco-friendly way  using some recycled materials. They are really easy & a fun project to do with the kids. Welcome the new year in a safe way. :)

Materials:

Empty bottles
Beads/ pebbles
Ribbon
Junk food wrapper
Craft tape
Scissors

Instructions:
1. Clean junk food wrappers and cut a 2 inches wide strip from it.
Picture
2. Fold it into half exposing the printed side out. Now, take your scissors and, starting at the folded edge, cut strips from the folded edge leaving a small portion on the end uncut so that it will stay attached to each other.Continue to cut several strips along the piece of paper like shown in the picture above.

3. Flip it over exposing the shiny part of the junk food wrapper.

4. Start rolling it over to the bottle to cover it. Use craft tape to hold it in place.

5. Cover all parts of the bottle with the junk food wrapper.

6. Let the bottle dry. Place a handful beads or pebbles inside the bottle. Replace the bottle.

7. Place a ribbon to cover the end part of the junk food wrapper. Make sure that there is enough place for handle. Shake it vigorously to make some noise. :) You're now ready to welcome the new year in a safe way.

Tips: You can also use empty soda cans in replacement of plastic bottles. Save some ribbons from the gifts to you just received on Christmas so you can use it for decors. You can also use used gift wrappers to cover the cans/bottles for your noise maker.

If you have good ideas for recycling and crafts and want to share it here, let me know by commenting below. You can also give me an ART CHALLENGE by telling me the materials to use and the artwork you want me to do. :)

However artistic this may seem, I think I won't be following these steps only to come up with a thing that makes sounds through the use of plastic. I'd rather tune in to the radio or download some mp3s off websites which produce the same sound effect. Easier--and I would have less garbage later.

Great way to reuse plastic bottles and soda cans. For ribbons, you can keep the ribbons you remove from gifts and recycle them too.

Another great alternative! But in our merrymaking last year, what we used were the lids from the glass bottles (tanzan).. we had those drilled and placed into some circular metal altogether.

Wow, a great way to educate people in recycling of materials. I hope that schools will push through on this kind of project to help the environment.
