The birth of a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary on November 30 is celebrated as Bonifacio Day and is a public holiday in the Philippines. Andres Bonifiacio is the founder and the leader of KKK (Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng Bayan) which fought for the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule. Because of it, he was considered as a national hero and also considered by some historians to be the first president of the country. He died in May 10, 1987 at the age of 33.
A group of artists in Manila calling themselves as "Gerilyas" painted an image of Andres Bonifacio with other Katipuneros waving the KKK (Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng Bayan) flag, which shows how they hardly fought for the Philippine independence over the Spanish colonial. It also aims of giving the place a new look, from wall full of vandalism into a memorable landmark that gives tribute to our national hero. This mural is located at Philcoa overpass in Quezon City. The Gerilya crew was composed of JA, Jano Gonzales KUBE, Nico Villarete ZAP, Nico Zapanta TERI, Ralph Lumbres MIX, Mixkaela Villalon DYAM and Jasmin Gonzales. But, after the installation of this mural last November 23, it was again vandalized with bizarre images in November 24. It took only three days for the disturbing vandals to defaced the beautiful mural. The artists created it in time for the celebration of the 149th Bonifacio Day on November 30, 2012 but failed to make on the day it was intended for. Bonifacio Day: November 30

The crew gave their time and energy and talent to create such a great work and tribute to a real hero. What happened to the mural later (vandalized) is sad and highlights that the sad fact that a significant part of our society does not understand our nation, our heritage and our greatness as a people. Is there a way to contact the crew? It does not take much for other members of the public such as myself to want to contribute in our little way, perhaps, for example, to donate acrylic panels to protect any of their future works that would otherwise be unprotected. Yes vandals may still spray on the panels but at least the panels can be scraped clean.
