Philippine cuisine is a very good archetype to mount the different cultures that make up the 7,107 islands of the country. Each region in the Philippines has a distinguish cuisine that represents their cultures. Ilocanos are known for their traditional food which is kinilaw and dinengdeng. Kapampangans, on the other side are know for their sisig, Bicolano cuisines are more on gata and sili. But all of these food culture can be easily found at any carinderia which is you can see in every corner of every street anywhere in the country.

Carinderia became part of the Filipino culture. It is a local eatery that sells and serves viands and meals and oftenly called as a "turo-turo" wherein customers literally point what they want to eat from the choices of foods.

To empower this culture, the SM Hypermarket thought of many ways to help Filipino families and entrepreneurs who run a carinderia, catering and restaurant operators. They can own a brand new kitchen and dining area furnished by SM Hypermarket with SM Master Chefs Free Carinderia Makeover – one of the three components of this year’s run.

Aside from the Free Makeover for food business owners, SM Master Chefs 2012 is made more exciting with back-to-back Cooking Demos of notable chefs and a Master Recipe contest for those who love to eat, cook and experiment with their food.

Last August 16, 2012, Philippine Top Chefs showcased their expertise in making everyday food more exciting and mouthwatering. The SM Hypermarket brings back SM Master Chef’s cooking marathon with new recipes prepared by the respective master chefs of the different master brands. This year’s run is sponsored by master brands Bounty Fresh, CDO, Nestle, Purefoods, Magnolia and Unilever Food Solutions Knorr. Each had a featured chef who goes around the 34 branches of SM Hypermarket every week in three months for cooking demonstrations and a delectable shopping experience open to all shoppers for free.

Chef RJ Garcia  from San Miguel Corp., prepared two simple snacks, the Roti Dog and Croque Madame but made he it more special using San Miguel products.

To celebrate the festivity of Filipino culture, young Filipino performers showcased their talents in dancing and singing. A group of dancers performed a lively modern ethnic dance and a man serenade the guests with his beautiful voice. Truly, Filipinos are not only the best in cooking but also in any form of entertainment.

And as a tribute to food service owners, SM Hypermarket is giving away a free makeover of their kitchen and dining area to five lucky and deserving food business operators in order to help them sustain their operations. A minimum P500 worth of groceries inclusive of two sponsor brands or a fully stamped loyalty card give food business owners a chance to win a makeover. And when you buy your ingredients at SM Hypermarket and whip up a great tasting, unique and reasonably priced recipe using any of our master brands, you will get the chance to win in SM Master Chefs recipe contest. Just bring your finished product to any SM Hypermarket store on judging day and you could be hailed one of the thirty three SM Master Chefs 2012.
